I just moved into a new apartment this past weekend! I love it so far, but still have a lot of unpacking and setting up to do. I did manage to finish a new piece of art last night, which is good because I don't know if I'll get a chance to put up anything new until I finish unpacking everything here. My books and art supplies are tucked away in boxes, and I only have my computer work station partially set up right now.

So besides the apartment, my other exciting news is that I get to see Monsters Of Folk in NYC tomorrow night! I wasn't expecting to get to see any more live acts for a while after seeing Andrew Bird in Buffalo a few weeks ago (which was amazing), so this is a nice surprise. I'm also planning to go to the Society of Illustrators and The Strand bookstore while I'm in NYC.

I'll leave you with this quote from a kindergarten art class that I subbed for yesterday:
Boy 1: I have three sisters.
Boy 2: Harsh!

Oh kids. So entertaining. ;)

I hope everyone has had a good summer! I've been spending the past few months working, doing a little bit of traveling, and looking for a teaching job. It's been both busy and not-busy, but mostly just draining.

After graduation I kind of crashed a bit creatively - getting your Masters degree in nine months takes a toll. But I'm getting back in the swing of things art wise. I've been trying to post more in my sketch blog, so if you hop on over there you can find lots of mini-paintings, sketchbook pages, and more. I have work I want to upload here, but most of it I think I want to go back and tweak a bit before I post it. Some of it is stuff that I started while I was finishing up grad school and just didn't have time to follow through on. But new art is on the way!

That said, I'm extremely behind on my messages here, like almost 700 messages behind. I'm reading them all, bit by bit, but I just can't physically respond to every single one. I hope no one takes it personally, because I do read and appreciate every message I get.

So what else is new from the past few months, besides finishing grad school, you ask? Well...
-I joined Twitter, as JackieOcean, so feel free to add me if you like.
-I went flying in a glider, as a passenger not a pilot. Very cool experience.
-I did an interview for a website about art, teaching, and more.
-I saw Coldplay, Pete Yorn, Dave Matthews Band, K'Naan, G. Love & Special Sauce, and Jason Mraz in concert.

But enough about me. How have you guys been?

Hey everyone! Hope 2009 has been treating you well so far.

Grad school has been keeping me incredibly busy, which is why I haven't been on DA as much as usual. I've been trying to post new art in my sketch blog when I can. I'm working on uploading some new stuff to my gallery tonight and this weekend, since I haven't posted anything since May (yikes!). It's mostly all art I made during these past two semesters. My print shop will also be updated with some new stuff.

Obviously, I'm way behind on my messages, but I do read them and I'll eventually try to get through them all. I start student teaching towards the end of February, so things are only going to get busier from here on it.

As always, thanks very much for all of your comments and feedback, and for taking the time to stop by and look at my art. I really appreciate it!

Long time, no see!

As usual, my plan to diligently update over the summer failed. I'm back home now after finishing up my teaching and desk job at the art gallery. I have a little bit of free time and then grad school classes start September 1st! I have an orientation to go to on August 27th, but other than that, this will probably be the last little bit of free time I have for a while. I spent last weekend with Jeff, and this weekend the two of us are taking a road trip to visit my best friend, Katie. Jeff and Katie's classes also start around the same time as mine, and then everyone is going to be quite a bit busier.

If you'd like a look into what I was up to this summer, here are some photos for you to check out - Album Part I and Album Part II.

I don't have any large pieces of artwork from this summer, but I did work on getting outside and practicing with watercolors. My goal for this summer was to paint more, especially outside, so that was what I focused on doing. You can see my watercolors, as well as some stuff from the kids' art classes I taught, right here at my sketch blog.

With this little bit of free time I have before classes start I'm working on getting things organized for the school year. I figure the more organized I am, the less of an excuse I'll have to procrastinate. I'm all signed up for my classes. Studio electives took a bit of time to figure out due to scheduling conflicts, but I was finally able to find two open studios that fit around my required classes. The watercolor class I wanted to get in to was closed, but I'm going to check it at a later date. Maybe I'll get lucky and a spot will free up, but in the meantime I signed up for a casting class as my backup. I've done metals casting before, so at least I'd have a little bit of experience to fall back on. My other studio is a class about figure painting, which I'm psyched about. I still have books to get, but I've price checked most of them on Amazon so I at least have an idea of what I'm getting into.

It's been a while since I posted a new journal entry here, so I thought I'd pop in with an update. My apologies for not uploading any new art since February. Things have been busy lately, but in a good way! :)

The main reason for being so busy lately is that I'm going to be going to grad school! In February I was completing all of my application stuff that I needed to do. I applied to RIT for their art education program. It's a one year program, and they only take a little over a dozen students. A couple of weeks ago I heard from the school that I was accepted! And with a partial scholarship as well!

I'll be starting school at the beginning of September. This summer I'll be teaching at the art gallery for my fourth summer. Besides returning to a job that I love, I'll also be able to use my job towards some things for school. We're being strongly encouraged to do at least 25 hours of teaching this summer and to document it all. I'm lucky enough to already have my job teaching art classes for children lined up for six weeks during the summer, so I won't have to search for any summer teaching opportunities.

Besides getting things in order for school, I've been working a lot. I have artwork in progress, too, so hopefully I'll get a chance to finish off some of those pictures soon so that I can share them here.

Anyhow, that's what I've been up to lately. :) And as always, I post journal type stuff at my Live Journal if you're ever wondering what I'm up to.
