It's been a while since I posted a new journal entry here, so I thought I'd pop in with an update. My apologies for not uploading any new art since February. Things have been busy lately, but in a good way! :)

The main reason for being so busy lately is that I'm going to be going to grad school! In February I was completing all of my application stuff that I needed to do. I applied to RIT for their art education program. It's a one year program, and they only take a little over a dozen students. A couple of weeks ago I heard from the school that I was accepted! And with a partial scholarship as well!

I'll be starting school at the beginning of September. This summer I'll be teaching at the art gallery for my fourth summer. Besides returning to a job that I love, I'll also be able to use my job towards some things for school. We're being strongly encouraged to do at least 25 hours of teaching this summer and to document it all. I'm lucky enough to already have my job teaching art classes for children lined up for six weeks during the summer, so I won't have to search for any summer teaching opportunities.

Besides getting things in order for school, I've been working a lot. I have artwork in progress, too, so hopefully I'll get a chance to finish off some of those pictures soon so that I can share them here.

Anyhow, that's what I've been up to lately. :) And as always, I post journal type stuff at my Live Journal if you're ever wondering what I'm up to.

Last September I was contacted by another artist on deviantArt who was writing a piratey sailing adventure type story. *CapnFlynn wanted me to illustrate the cover for the hardcover version of the book. This is what I came up with. It features Flynn, the main character in The Voyage to Ruin.

Kat then turned my illustration of Flynn into this beautifully designed book cover.

Pretty exciting, huh? A picture I made is now the cover for an officially published book! I received my copy in the mail a couple weeks ago and it looks beautiful. The hardcover version of the story also has interior illustrations by Kat. The paperback version has a cover by Kat and no interior illustrations.

The Voyage to Ruin is currently available for purchase from Lulu, Amazon, and Barnes & Noble.

Hey everyone! :) I realize that I haven't updated here in a while. In fact I'm waaaay overdue for a new journal entry.

I've been busy working a lot this summer. I've been working at an art gallery where I've been teaching art classes for kids in the mornings and then doing gallery stuff in the afternoons and evenings. It's been a lot of fun, but it's also been taking up the majority of my time which is why I haven't been on deviantArt (or Live Journal for that matter) as much as I usually am. I spent some time yesterday trying to catch up on stuff in my message center, so if you just now received a reply on something that you commented on a while ago you now know why.

I have been posting stuff at my sketch blog, mostly because I haven't had the time to make stuff of the finished quality that I usually post here. But there are sketches from my summer as well as a few other random things that can be found at my sketch blog, so go take a look if you want to see what I've been up to.

Now that classes at the gallery are done for the season, I should have more time to get some art stuff done. I'm still working at the gallery, just with a different schedule then what I've had for the previous two months.

In geek news, I've been reading a lot of books this summer during the slow points at the gallery. I even managed to finish off The Dark Tower series and, of course, Harry Potter. I've also been hitting up the local library for free DVD rentals and have been trying to catch up on classic movies that I should have seen a while ago (ie. Singin' In the Rain and Chinatown for starters) and TV series that people have told me I should be watching. I've watched the first four discs of season 1 of Veronica Mars and the first three discs of season 1 of Battlestar Galactica. I'm stopping back at the library today to see if the later discs for season 1 for both of those series are in so that I can finish them off. I have a feeling that I could become very addicted to Battlestar - people have told me it's good and man, they weren't kidding.

Anyhow, that's some of what I've been up to lately. Hopefully as much time won't pass between now and my next update. Take care all! =D

It's Pirates week! :ahoy: In celebration of the third Pirates of the Caribbean movie being released this week, I've gathered together some of my favorite piratical pictures that I've found here on DA. I meant to post this earlier, but it was delayed a bit because I was answering all of the lovely messages you people left me after yesterday's Daily Deviation. ;) So without further ado, enjoy the great pictures by these talented people!

I'm no stranger to pirate art, and here are just a few pictures that I've done on the subject.

I woke up today and was pleasantly surprised to find that I had gotten a Daily Deviation for Love Rescue Me! I had gotten a DD once before, so I wasn't expecting another. I'm very happy that this picture got chosen and that so many people are enjoying it as well. A big thank you to ^nighty for picking it! :thanks:

So I'd like to say a big hello to all of the new people that are finding their way to my gallery! I really appreciate all of the comments on my art that I've been getting, so thanks for taking the time to look through my gallery.
