I always love making fairy tale illustrations. This picture of Snow White was done for the art community on Live Journal called Art Memes that I participate in.
Now technically, if I was remaining entirely true to the Brothers Grimm version of Snow White (which is my favorite), the apple's skin would be half red and half white, but I just like the visual of an all red apple better. A two-toned apple always seemed far too suspicious to me, but Snow White is a gullible girl.
The line art was inked on paper and then I painted on a series of ink washes. After that, I scanned it and all the color was added in Photoshop with my tablet.
Technically it's half-white, half-red... because an apple's red on the outside and white on the inside. ^.^;; But it's really cool. Yeah, illustrating old stories is fun. (Yes, especially original Grimm's... those crazy coots.)

Well, the big Brothers Grimm book I have says it's half red and half white, and I do remember a really good live action version I used to watch when I was little having the apple like that as well.
I love the original versions of fairy tales. I was raised on Disney and love those versions, but the original ones like the Grimms brothers are just so much darker and more interesting!
I read one of your other comments about reading the original fairy tales... I have a book that includes original ones from the Grimms Brothers & other sources (they are more interesting!) -- It's illustrated by Jane Ray, and I loved her paintings so much that I copied 3 of them/drew them myself.
Maybe one day you'll get the chance to illustrate a book like that with all of your fairy tale artwork!

The butter legion- a socialist movement/mass colab project I started, to trigger artistic change and evolution in Da artists (mainly my watchers), to make them more active and dedicated on DA.
