Deep in the wintery forest is where the snow princess holds her court.

This was initially drawn with brown pencil on watercolor paper and then I painted over it with a series of ink washes. Different parts of the scenery - trees, falling snow - were painted on separate sheets of paper and then added as layers in Photoshop. All of the color was painted in Photoshop with my tablet. I based the snow princess on a photo of myself. I started out looking at various random models from magazines, but they all looked too, well, modely and not so much like an actual person. And I'd rather for this snow princess to look believeable and not like some total fantasy person. Haha, if that makes any sense.

May of 2006.

Thank you! I enjoyed working with wintery colors when everything is really spring colored around here right now. It makes for an interesting contrast. ;)

Thank you! I wasn't sure if it was too soft looking at first, so I'm happy to hear you think it works.

It's deffinately not too soft. There's enough sharpness around the jaw line and the whites of the eyes to make the face really pop against the smooth background.
Ooh, tis beautiful!
I really like the background, and the ice tiara... I want one!!! :D

Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way when you do criticize them, you're a mile ahead and you have their shoes.
It's really gorgeous. Love the small details you added to the background and hair. You're colouring is brilliant once more :)

I like the natural asymmetrical crown - it's shaped like real ice.

Thanks! That's what I was going for. I've thought the idea for an ice crown would be really cool since I was a kid.
