Obviously, this is inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid, one of my favorite fairy tales. I composed this in Photoshop with my tablet, incorporating a few elements that I drew and painted on watercolor paper and then scanned in. It was fun to take a break from all the pictures I've been doing lately that use heavy lineart and to just make something that's much more painterly.

Completed in May of 2006.

Here via the link from The Illustrated Word. This is gorgeous! Traditional fairy tales have always been my favorite, since my long ago childhood. Thanks not only for sharing your vision but for bringing back cherished memories.

I really like dA. And I enjoy a wide variety of styles of artwork. But sometimes, I feel overwhelmed by the amount of manga/anime and photography here. So great to see painterly styles too!
