Love, rescue me Come forth and speak to me Raise me up And don't let me fall. - Love Rescue Me by U2
Obviously, this is inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid, one of my favorite fairy tales. I composed this in Photoshop with my tablet, incorporating a few elements that I drew and painted on watercolor paper and then scanned in. It was fun to take a break from all the pictures I've been doing lately that use heavy lineart and to just make something that's much more painterly.
Completed in May of 2006.
Prints are now available!
Also, I uploaded a small version of how this picture progressed to my Scraps area: [link] It's not a tutorial, but it will offer some insight for those who ask how I go about making a picture.

Love Rescue Me by *jackieocean is such a beautiful illustration of one of my favourite fairytales that I simply had to feature it. Enjoy ! (

Call in the depths of your despair and if you grant me one scarlet tear, I will be there. The water carries you below and leave you to a somber solitude. I will be the princess of ice who comes to your rescue and secure your soul. Just rest your weary heart in my arms and I will never let you go. Just let go of all your troubles and sorrows, let them sink to the bottom like a lifeless anchor falling to liberty.
Your painting is stunning! the way you captored a the lady's determination to keep her lover safe from harm, it's so beautiful... and if I may ask, would you mind if I used this as a visual for one of my writings? [link] credits of course will be posted with a link to your gallery. Thank you for sharing this!
Here via the link from The Illustrated Word. This is gorgeous! Traditional fairy tales have always been my favorite, since my long ago childhood. Thanks not only for sharing your vision but for bringing back cherished memories.
I really like dA. And I enjoy a wide variety of styles of artwork. But sometimes, I feel overwhelmed by the amount of manga/anime and photography here. So great to see painterly styles too!
