Because I am a total sap, I decided to make a last minute entry for the Phantom Valentine art contest over at PFN.

Some people spend their lazy Sunday time reading the newspaper or having coffee with their loved one - I like to think that Erik and Christine would spend their lazy Sunday time composing and playing music. Wouldn't that be a cute scene?

Drawn in pencil, colored in Photoshop, February of 2005.

Hee hee, I'm such a dork.

Lovely picture. Christine looks a lot like the movie Christine. I like how you did it on a stained color piece of paper. It wouldnt have looked appropriate on white. It really all keeps a very warm, very romatic feel to it.
I adore how you do hair too. Did you use the airbrush in Photoshop? Is that why your original lineart shows through?

I actually did draw it on white paper. All of the coloring was added in Photoshop. What I did was I did the coloring on lower layers and set the top layer with my lineart to multiply - voila! The colors show through the lineart. That's the (very) basic method that I use for coloring most of my pieces where I want the lineart to show.

Beautiful and very classic-looking.

Thanks! I was trying to go for a vintage type feel with the colors. Good to know you got that "classic" vibe from it.

Set the top layer to multiply...?

I know Photoshop fairly well, but I've never done that before. How do you do that? Because I pull my line art off the page (which looks horrible most of the time) by changing my contrast and selecting the line art and deleting the white around it.

WELL! I must say, it looks very good regardless that all the coloring was done on Photoshop. I still like it on the parchment color background, though I havent seen the white version, so I guess I'm being biast. =P

Erm, I'm terrible at technical descriptions, but let's see how I do with this...

You know how you can chage the layer's properties? Well, the part that lets you set it to various types - says things like multiply, screen, overlay, soft light, hard light, color dodge, color burn, darken, lighten, difference, exclusion, etc. - is where I selected the multiply option from. I don't know if that will help at all or not. :?
